Help please to check valves especially you Hal!

I don't have a clymer or Suzuki Savage manual. Can anyone
give me step by step details on how to check the valve
lash? And how to adjust it if neccesary? Should I hold
it on the low end, high end (for RPM's), or shoot for
the middle of the tolerance? Thanks in advance!!
